Netflix is dropping Queer Eye Germany – despite the award-winning jury
As the Tagesspiegel reported at the end of 2022, Netflix will not extend the German version of the US makeover format Queer Eye for a second season. The streaming service did not give any reasons. It is likely that the series simply did not meet the expected number of viewers.
At the same time, it is considered exemplary and groundbreaking in parts of the German media world. Especially with regard to the cast, who will receive the prestigious Grimme Prize on April 21, 2023. The series succeed “thanks to an outstanding cast, the sensitive and touching approach” said the Grimme Prize jury.
Queer Eye Germany based on the idea of the US original. In the German version, an ensemble consisting of Leni Bolt, David Jakobs, Jan-Henrik Scheper-Stuke, Ayan Yuruk and Aljosha Muttardi visit people seeking help whose lives they are trying to optimize in terms of appearance, fashion, but also self-esteem and health.
