The think tank ISW assesses that Ukrainian forces established themselves on the eastern side of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.

Based on Russian military bloggers’ geolocated images, it appears that Ukrainian forces have positioned themselves on the eastern side of the important river, north of the community of Oleshky, and that they have also moved along a highway to the northern outskirts of the city, ISW writes in its daily analysis.

There have been reports that Ukrainian forces have been on the eastern side of the river for some time. But now, based on the images, the analysts at the American think tank feel more confident that the information is correct.

There are also reports that Russia no longer controls some islands in the river delta southwest of the city of Kherson, which Ukraine retook in a counteroffensive last fall.

ISW finds it difficult to assess the extent of the Ukrainian forces in the area and what their intentions are.

Further north, fighting continued, with Russian attacks in Bachmut and the area around Avdijivka. The Russian Defense Ministry says the Wagner group captured three blocks in western Bachmut, but the information has not been confirmed by independent sources.
