The Republican Association’s newly elected chairman is Niclas Malmberg. He is 52 years old, lives outside Uppsala and has previously been a member of the Riksdag and cultural policy spokesperson for the Green Party.
“I will invite Head of State Carl Gustaf Bernadotte to a meeting to discuss the amendments to the constitution that need to be prepared in anticipation of the introduction of the republic,” he says in a press release.
Niclas Malmberg addresses all politicians and asks them to drive public opinion on the issue: “Now every opportunity must be taken to bring forward the complete absurdity of the hereditary monarchy.”
The Republican Association has 7,291 members, according to its website.
