“Beginning to hurry in Sudan – people need to be lifted out”

If the Riksdag gives its approval tomorrow, an armed force can be sent from Sweden to Sudan immediately, according to Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M). He says that there are around a hundred Swedish citizens in the country who need to be evacuated. It is about staff at the embassy, their families and other Swedes in the country.

The fact that the announcement is coming now is a signal that it is getting urgent as food and water are becoming increasingly difficult to get while the fighting is going on. That’s what SVT’s Johan Ripås says.

– Many who are there and work have supplies that last a week, and that week has passed. Those who are stuck are getting more and more desperate and it’s starting to go pretty fast now. It is probably the signal that is coming, that there are people who need to be lifted out, says Ripås.
