The protection representatives for the trade union ST Pendeln have decided to stop solo work for train drivers on the commuter trains in Stockholm as of Monday. This means that the trains do not run if the driver has to drive alone. The decision applies from Monday at 9 am. ST Pendeln writes in a press release that the protective stop is being introduced out of consideration for the drivers’ working environment. “Since MTR introduced solitary work for the train drivers, there have been a number of incident reports that show major risks in the work environment. This applies, among other things, to evacuations and collisions where it took too long before assistance was on site,” writes the trade union. The stop is introduced – then AMV reviews The decision on a protective stop has been sent to the employer and you must also notify the Work Environment Agency (AMV), which will assess whether allowed to remain. Therefore, it is likely that AMV will visit the site on Monday. They may then lift the stop after an inspection – but regardless, the stop will start on Monday at nine. – As I see it, MTR has two options on Monday. They can let two drivers man the trains, or a train driver and a train attendant. The train attendants still work at MTR, says Roger Delin, chairman of ST Pendeln. The deadline has expired. The trade union writes in the press release that it has reported the problems and given the employer until today at 2 p.m. to fix the problems. Since they do not feel that the work environment problems have been fixed, the safety representatives therefore decide to introduce a protective stop according to the Work Environment Act. – We found out about this very recently, we are trying to figure out what this means for us, announces MTR’s press service, which will return. This week, train drivers for the commuter trains in Stockholm went on wild strike for three days – an illegal strike organized by individual employees. Behind the protest action was dissatisfaction that the train attendants have been abolished, which means solitary work for the drivers. TV4 News is looking for MTR.
