He has one of our most iconic commentary voices.
But over four years have passed since Staffan Lindeborg left the television screen – we thought.
Because now the legendary commentator has reappeared.
In December 2018, one of Swedish sports’ great commentators and TV personalities said goodbye to the viewers and listeners. When the SVT icon Staffan Lindeborg resigned and retired, as most thought he would.

He spent a full 50 years as an employee in public service for both Sveriges Radio and SVT, many of the years together with the pair horse Glenn Stromberg. But now over four years later, Lindeborg has appeared in the TV box again – for a completely new job.

Many of us have seen the TV legend in Svenska Spel’s commercials where he is the host of a quiz with several sports profiles.
– I have done some stuff with Svenska spel before, but this is the first time I appear in an advertising context. As a matter of principle, I say no to private betting companies. This is something that I think is fun and that I can stand for, he says in an interview with SportExpressen.

“Always loved”
Quizzes in particular seem to be something that the 72-year-old really likes, as we have previously also seen him appear in the television program “Alla mot alla”.
– Clearly. I have always loved quizzes. When I was little, I stood in the classroom during the fun hour and played presenter in “Kvitt or double”. But it’s more fun to ask the questions, Staffan admits in the interview.

Lindeborg doesn’t seem to have immediately slowed down after leaving SVT, but continues to find projects and various jobs in sports to pass the time. For several years he has run a production company with his three children and he also helps new sports commentators.
– It is very stimulating. When I was lured by Lars-Gunnar Björklund to Tipsextra in 1979, there were four or five of us who got to commentate when the televised sports broadcast football. Today there are many more. Everyone needs support and advice. Even Glenn (Strömberg) has realized it. So I’m busy. Since I left SVT, I’ve had time to do a lot of fun things, he says to the evening newspaper.
