A large explosion rocked the Russian city of Belgorod on Thursday. At least two people were injured and several buildings and cars were destroyed. The Russian Ministry of Defense states that the city was accidentally bombed. On Thursday, the Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine was hit by a large explosion. According to an early statement from the region’s governor, two women were injured in connection with the explosion. Moments later, the Russian Ministry of Defense took the leaf out of its mouth and stated that it was a Russian warplane that had accidentally hit the city. “When a Sukhoi Su-34 fighter jet flew over the city of Belgorod, an accidental release of ammunition occurred,” the ministry said in a statement, according to Russian state news agency Tass. Large crater on the main street It is not clear from the statement what type of weapon it is, according to Reuters. The explosion is said to have been so great that a crater with a diameter of 20 meters was formed on one of the city’s main streets. The governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, declared a state of emergency in the city after the incident. According to him, four cars and four buildings were damaged in the explosion.
