Popular fantasy series Teen Wolf returns with a new film

The fantasy series Teen Wolf was a real hit for the MTV channel in its 6 seasons. After exactly 100 episodes, however, it was over and Werewolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and his friends were allowed to go their separate ways. Until now, because now the series returns with an almost complete cast: The movie sequel Teen Wolf: The Movie is out April 20, 2023 at Paramount+ *.

Fantasy reunion: Not only the Teen Wolf series returns from the dead in the film sequel

Teen Wolf was a fantasy series between 2011 and 2017 with a large fan base, even if it didn’t have much in common with its loosely named film template from the 80s. High school student Scott McCall is bitten by a werewolf on the MTV youth series, gains superhuman powers and discovers his hometown attracts supernatural creatures. He then faced new enemies and dangers with his friends and his werewolf mentor Derek (Tyler Hoechlin).

Teen Wolf: The Movie

Anyone who fears not having everything that happened in their heads six years after the end of the series can rest easy: the Teen Wolf film also brings the more forgetful among us back on board by reintroducing its characters at their current stages in life. In the world of Beacon Hills are even 15 years passed – perhaps so that the stars, who had long outgrown school age at the time of the series, can now play their real age.

Scott now works at a Los Angeles animal shelter in Teen Wolf: The Movie, but he still uses his wolf powers when the going gets tough. Lydia (Holland Roden) lives in San Francisco and no longer uses her Banshee abilities. Meanwhile, Derek, were-coyote Malia (Shelley Hennig) and sometimes villain Peter Hale (Ian Bohen) run an auto repair shop in Beacon Hills. Oh yes: And Derek now has a teenage son: Eli (Vince Mattis).

All of their lives, however, are shattered when Scott’s late love Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) suddenly reappears. But is the young woman with no memories really Allison? Or is someone playing an evil, supernatural prank on them?

Teen Wolf: The Movie feels like no time has passed – only missing three stars including Dylan O’Brien

With its stylish fantasy looks, dramatic sacrifices, consistently gorgeous cast and characters that mean something to each other (and us), Teen Wolf has always been a stylish and engaging event. That doesn’t change in the film sequel either: The sequel isn’t ashamed of any slow-motion action, no matter how slow, or its foggy forests and continues to enjoy the make-up of transformed werewolf faces.

What is particularly remarkable is who the Teen Wolf film everything in the cast retrieve everything could: Not only the main characters Scott, Derek, Lydia, Malia and Allison are back. Even with the secondary characters, you can hardly look anywhere without spotting a familiar face: be it veterinarian Dr. Alan Deaton (Seth Gilliam), reptilian returnee Jackson (Colton Haynes), hellhound Deputy Parish (Ryan Kelley), Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby), Allison’s father Chris Argent (JR Bourne), Scott’s mother Melissa (Melissa Ponzio), werewolf Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) or Peter Hale. At this reunion party, the plot quickly becomes secondary.

From the expansive original cast of the Teen Wolf series we look for only three figures in vain:

  • Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) as Scott’s best friend since season 1 is not included
  • Kira (Arden Cho) missing as a Japanese kitsune (season 3-5).
  • Theo (Cody Christian) as another werewolf teenager (since season 5) does not appear
  • The Reasons for her missing stars in Teen Wolf’s return are of different natures: Dylan O’Brien said the decision was difficult, but he was at a point in his career where he wanted to keep Teen Wolf in his past. Arden Cho declined when she was offered half her previous episode salary. Cody Christian was unable to attend due to scheduling difficulties.
