Valheim Fans Celebrate They’ll Soon Be Able To Make Anything Harder – ‘That’s All I Need’

Valheim is set to get new settings that you can use to make the game harder – and players are loving it.

“Are you ready for a hardcore mode in Valheim?” Jonathan Smårs, one of Valheim’s lead developers, asked on Twitter.

In addition, he showed some setting options in a video that Valheim should get. Many of the settings can make your gaming experience more difficult. In addition to a hardcore mode and other presets, there should be controls that you use to determine how many items you lose when you die, how hard your fights should be and how often your base is attacked.

With the various settings, it is therefore possible for you to make your game easier and, for example, switch to a comparatively safe construction mode or significantly increase the challenge offered by the game. The latter in particular is well received by some players.

“Options to make everything harder? Yes!”

What are the players saying? A look at Reddit shows that many Valheim fans find the various options really good and useful. For some players, the update even sounds so good that they want to return. The extreme settings in particular seem to please the players.

While some prefer the “Hammer Mode” because they can build there safely and undisturbed (via Reddit), other players look forward to the increased difficulty.

  • Coachbalrog: “Options to make everything harder? Yes! Options to remove the insane amount of Greydwarfs spawning? Also yes! That’s all I need (via Reddit).”
  • FuckingNoise: “Don’t you think you want to increase the number of Greydwarfs? I want a horde mode where hundreds of them test my defenses.”
  • MrSpiffyTrousers: “Now I want a ‘7 days to die’ mode where we get blood moons and shoot the bastards by the ton from the tree line.”
  • popotheviking: “Hardcore mode with insane difficulty? I’m in (via Reddit)!”
  • thatmaynardguy: “I love this. Some days I just want to wander around and build stuff. Other days I want a hardcore challenge. Being able to vote is awesome (via Reddit)!”
  • 2rfv: “I can’t wait to see how Hardcore affects the bosses. I’ve been wanting NG+ mode since Mistlands came out so I have something to counter my insane magic damage (via Reddit).”

In 2022, however, the surprise hit quieted down a bit and the average number of players fell to a low of 12,696 in October 2022.

However, Valheim is occasionally updated with new content and with the Mistlands update in December 2022 the title recorded a peak of 56,000 average players.
