MANDALORIAN. Season 3 of The Mandalorian airs its last episode on Disney+ this April 19, 2023. Is a sequel in the form of season 4 already planned?

This concludes the third season of the Star Wars spin-off series, which is very popular with the public. But is this the end of the series, or is a sequel planned? On February 22, at the microphone of BFM TV, the co-creator of The Mandalorian Jon Favreau confided in the future of the series.

He revealed there to have ideas for a sequel, and to have finished writing season 4. Words which confirm a return of the Mandalorian and Grogu in new episodes. However, it still needs to be completely completed in pre-production, in the filming phase and in post-production before hoping to discover it on the small screen. Recall that a year and a half separated season 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian. We can only hope that the wait is shorter for season 4.
The complete recap of The Mandalorian season 2
During season 2 of the series, Din Djarin, aka the Mandalorian or “Mando”, met the Jedi Ahsoka Tano who had refused to train Grogu (who some still call “Baby Yoda”) in the ways of the Force. The cub was then captured by the Imperial forces of Moff Gideon. Mando and his allies, including the Mandalorian Bo-Katan, had then organized a rescue operation that could have ended without the help of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, who had answered Grogu’s call. After a heartbreaking farewell scene between Grogu and Din Djarin – who was also taking off his helmet in front of him for the first time – Luke then left with the child under his arm to train him to become a Jedi. After beating Moff Gideon in a duel, Din Djarin is now in possession of the Dark Saber that Bo-Katan was looking for. It is a symbol that legitimizes the accession to the throne of the planet Mandalore, from which the Mandalorians originate.
If you left it at that, know that you missed three episodes of the Book of Boba Fett series in which the Mandalorian appeared. In these episodes, Din Djarin went in search of other Mandalorians and found the hideout of the blacksmith and Pav Viszla, the descendant of the creator of the Dark Saber who tries to rob him after a duel. The Mandalorian stands his ground but reveals to them that he went against Mandalore’s creed and revealed his face. In fact, he is no longer considered a full Mandalorian and will have to make an act of repentance by going to the planet. On Tatooine, the Mandalorian gets a new ship thanks to his repairman friend named Peli.
Din Djarin returns to see Grogu but Ahsoka Tano advises him not to get in touch with him, to avoid awakening his feeling of attachment which could jeopardize his Jedi training. Din Djarin, however, leaves him with a coat of mail in beskar (the ultra-resistant steel that forms the armor of the Mandalorians) before leaving. Luke Skywalker gives him a choice: stay with him and get a lightsaber (Master Yoda’s) or go back to Mando and get the chain mail he made for him. In the end, as the Mandalorian aids Boba Fett on Tatooine in Mos Espa, Grogu returns to Din Djarin using Luke’s X-Wing piloted by R2-D2. The duo is therefore reunited when season 3 of The Mandalorian begins.

On the casting side, it is Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos) who plays the role of the title character of The Mandalorian. He is accompanied by Gina Carano in the role of Cara Dune while Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) embodies the character of Moff Gideon. Actors like Nick Nolte, Werner Herzog or Carl Weathers make appearances in the series. Note also the presence of Taika Waititi in the series, in the role of the killer robot IG-11.

Know that The Mandalorian starts between episode 6, Return of the Jedi, and episode 7, The Force Awakens. To be completely precise, according to the official calendar, The Mandalorian is set five years after the Battle of Endor (i.e. in the year 9 after the Battle of Yavin, depicted in A New Hope). In terms of the geopolitical situation, the Galactic Empire suffered a heavy defeat on Endor: Emperor Palpatine and his right-hand man Darth Vader are both dead. The New Republic was created from the ashes of the Empire and established the seat of the Senate on the planet Chandrila. The remaining Empire forces are dispatched to the far reaches of the galaxy, to the Outer Rim where The Mandalorian series takes place.
As its name suggests, The Mandalorian series follows a Mandalorian, a man of few words who lives by the Mandalorian martial code and works for the Bounty Hunters Guild. He sells his martial abilities to the highest bidder and performs contracts in the Outer Rim until the day when an enigmatic client asks him not to kill someone but to recover for him a “child” that he must bring back to him safe and sound. except, at all costs. The Mandalorian later discovers that it is not just any child, it is a young person from Yoda’s species…
Even with all the good will in the world, it was impossible to escape the “Baby Yoda” phenomenon that exploded on social networks at the time of the American broadcast of The Mandalorian. This baby of Yoda’s species (and Yaddle, the only other member of the species we have seen in the Star Wars saga) has no name at the beginning of the series, where he is simply called “the ‘child”. It is this child that the Mandalorian must hand over to his client for a reason that has not yet been given to him. A veil of mystery surrounds this character and it is certain that this little green ball contains a key secret for the rest of the series. Season 2 of The Mandalorian revealed Baby Yoda’s real name. It is Ahsoka Tano who gives us this information: “the child” is actually called Grogu.
