With its beta, Diablo 4 offered many hours of fun, in which heroes were allowed to let off steam. The important thing about the test, however, was the feedback, since Blizzard is now taking it to heart. The developers want to adjust one important thing now, because it annoyed many players.
What annoyed the players? Those who participated in the Diablo 4 beta were able to test a large part of what players can expect at the full release. Character Creator and Story has managed to impress many gamers, but one thing that really spoiled the immersive feel and that is the sans serif font.
A dark, doomed world with demons and monsters, lots of blood and terror, and then items appear that have been given a font similar to Arial? This not only looks inappropriate, but also hurts the eyes a lot. That’s why many players got excited about it (via reddit.com), but Blizzard offers a promising change for the release.
Blizzard doesn’t hesitate to make adjustments
What will change? Blizzard has taken the community feedback to heart and plans to change its font for release. First, a sans serif font was chosen. This will now be changed to a serif font for release (via wowhead.com).
Diablo 3 did the same when it was released. Players complained that Blizzard chose a sans serif font. This had a counterproductive effect on the immersive feeling. With the release of Reaper of Souls, the font was changed to a serif font.
What are serifs? Fonts usually have fewer or more ornaments. A distinction is made between fonts with serifs and sans serifs. Serifs are suffixes placed at the end of letters. Some fonts look more classic this way.
Diablo 4 takes place in a medieval setting with fantasy elements. A font without serifs or embellishments looks more modern and therefore rather inappropriate. This tears many players completely out of the game during their loot forays.
What do you think of the change? Do you like it or did you think the font in the beta was already suitable for Diablo 4? Let’s find out in the comments!
