  • Continued strike on commuter trains

    The locomotive drivers’ wild strike enters day two and leads to further disruptions in commuter train traffic.

    – The way it looks now, it seems that there will be just as extensive disturbances today as yesterday, with very limited traffic carried out by the commuter trains, says Henrik Palmér, press spokesperson at the Transport Administration to TT.

    On Monday, only a third of the commuter trains ran. During Tuesday, 20 percent of the trains will be able to run.

    Two people have been arrested, suspected of attempted murder. They were both later arrested.

    Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Ukraine on Tuesday, the Russian news agency TASS reports, according to Reuters.

    Putin was also in Ukraine in March in connection with a visit to the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol.

  • China’s economy is growing more than expected

    During the first quarter of the year, GDP rose by 4.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year, TT reports. It is significantly higher than analysts at Bloomberg and AFP could have predicted.

    The retail trade is growing stronger with a rise of 10.6 percent in March after a long period of restrictions. It is the biggest increase since June 2021.

    Industrial production, on the other hand, rose by only 3.9 percent during the third month of the year, which is significantly lower than the 4.4 percent that analysts had expected.

  • Vattenfall wants to expand hydropower in Sweden

    The demand for electricity will increase in Sweden in the coming years. Statliga Vattenfall, Sweden’s largest hydropower producer, now therefore wants to expand hydropower, reports Echo.

    Four preliminary studies have now been started for construction in places where power stations already exist, including in the Umeälven and Luleälven.

    – It is very unique, we have not built on a large scale in Sweden since the 90s. So it’s the first time in 30 years that we’re going out and announcing plans to expand our business. If all four are lost, it means many billions, says Johan Dasht, CEO of Vattenfall Vattenkraft, to Ekot.

  • Hospitals full of people are shelled

    Around 200 civilians have died and 1,800 have been injured since fighting broke out on Saturday in Sudan, according to AFP.

    Now hospitals and patients are also affected by the violence, reports TT.

    On Monday, a university hospital’s wards were heavily damaged in a shelling in Sudan.

    It is one of at least six hospitals in the capital Khartoum that have been forced to close in the ongoing fighting between the country’s military and paramilitary RSF, TT reports.

    – We have run out of everything. We work with the smallest possible resources. We are all exhausted, but there is a shortage of doctors, says doctor Amin Saad.

  • Five arrested after shooting in Umeå

    A 25-year-old man was found shot in Umeå on Monday evening.

    During the night, the police announced that they had arrested five people suspected of involvement in the attempted murder.

    Partly as perpetrators of the crime itself, but also for grossly protecting a criminal, the police state.

  • DeSantis continues the fight against Disney

    Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is canceling more privileges that previously applied to the theme park Disney World.

    This time it is an exception for safety checks of rides, which Disney was previously able to handle themselves. Going forward, the state’s agricultural authority will be responsible for carrying out the inspections.

  • Near general strike in Canada

    More than 155,000 government employees in Canada will go on strike on Wednesday if the parties do not reach an agreement.

    The union PSAC’s chairman Chris Aylward says that they have achieved some success in the negotiations, but that they are far from each other when it comes to salaries and remote work, among other things.

    Staff in critical professions are exempt, but 35,000 CRA employees are covered, as are people working on visas. (TT)

    The shooting occurred in the Fröslunda district.

    The person is said to have been hit by several shots.

    Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) was in the city today due to the recent shootings.

  • EU ambassador attacked in Sudan

    The EU’s ambassador to Sudan has been attacked in his home in the capital, Khartoum.

    “A few hours ago, the EU ambassador in Sudan was attacked in his own residence,” writes the EU’s head of foreign affairs Josep Borrell on Twitter.

    He further writes that the incident constitutes a gross violation of the Vienna Convention.

    “The security of diplomatic premises and personnel is a primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law,” he continues.

    It is unclear how the attack took place and whether the ambassador is injured.

  • Attempted murder: Injured man came to the emergency room

    The police were alerted this evening to the University Hospital in Uppsala after a man with cut injuries entered the emergency room.

    They write on their website that they have carried out several investigative measures, including that a suspected crime scene on Bandstolsvägen has been located.

    Patrols will now carry out door knocking in the immediate area.

    A preliminary investigation into attempted murder has been launched.

    It is unclear how seriously injured the man is.

    Police investigators are appealing for help from the public.

  • Two arrested – ran secret Chinese “police station” in the US

    Two men have been arrested in New York by the FBI, suspected of having opened a secret “police station” on behalf of the Chinese government.

    Both men, ages 61 and 59, were arrested at their homes in New York on Monday morning, according to the US Department of Justice.

    At the same time, another 34 police officers are accused in China of having monitored and harassed Chinese regime critics living in the United States

    – This indictment exposes the Chinese state’s blatant violation of our country’s sovereignty, says prosecutor Breon Pearce.

    The police station is said to have been established in early 2022 and used to track and intimidate regime critics in the United States.

    It closed last fall, amid the FBI’s investigation.

    The two arrested men are then suspected of having deleted all communications with the Chinese government official who was their client.

  • 16-year-old rang the wrong door – got shot

    This weekend, large protests broke out in Kansas City in the American Missouri after a black teenage boy was shot.

    It was last Thursday that Ralph Yarl, 16, was going to pick up his brothers who were at a friend’s house.

    But he rang the wrong door – and was shot twice by the person who lived in the house.

    The shots hit the head and chest, the family’s lawyer Ben Crump told CNN. The boy’s condition is now serious but stable.

    According to CNN, the shooter was a white man in his 80s.

    Police cannot yet say whether there is a racial motive behind the shooting, but the Kansas police chief has said there are elements of such.

    On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered outside the house where the shooting took place and chanted “Black lives matter” and “Justice for Ralph”.

  • So far I have read about commuters who waited for the train for 30-50 min. We Stockholmers are well spoiled if it counts as a bigger problem. More information about how safety is affected without train attendants would be better, wouldn’t it?
