The Special Investigations Unit is investigating following an incident in which a suspect was shot at by two Brantford Police Service officers using anti-riot weapons.
The SIU says police responded to a domestic dispute call received at about 5:20 pm on Thursday,
Responding officers located a man armed with a knife on Sheridan Street.
Two of the police officers discharged Anti-Riot Weapon Enfields (ARWEN) at the 34-year-old man while a third officer fired a conducted energy weapon.
The man was transported to hospital after being arrested.
The suspect was not seriously injured, said the SIU, but an investigation is underway because an ARWEN is considered a firearm.
“Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, a firearm is defined as a barreled weapon from which any shot, bullet or other projectile can be discharged and that is capable of causing serious bodily injury or death to a person,” the SIU said in a media release.
At this point, the investigation involves two subjects and three witness officials.
