The European Union’s ambassador to Sudan was assaulted on Monday at his home in the capital, Khartoum.

The High Representative of the EU’s Foreign Affairs and Security Policy tells about it on Twitter Josep Borell. Borell described the incident as a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

– The security of diplomatic facilities and personnel is a central obligation of the Sudanese authorities, which is stipulated in international law, Borrell wrote.

EU spokesperson Nabila Massrali told news agency AFP that the ambassador is fine.
