Three times Canada took the lead in the game, followed by the USA tying the score. Tied 3–3 at the end of the third period, Canada incurred two ejections. Then USA’s Hilary Knight stepped forward and scored two goals in less than 30 seconds.
The USA has thus taken ten WC gold and twelve WC silver since the first WC tournament was decided in 1990. Canada has twelve gold and nine silver, as well as one bronze.
