hundreds of pensioners in Brazzaville claim their care

At least 600 former employees of the municipality of Brazzaville who claimed their pension rights between 2015 and 2022 still cannot claim their pensions. The reason: their files have not yet been taken care of by social security. They therefore decided to show their displeasure by organizing weekly sit-ins in front of the headquarters of the town hall.

With our correspondent in Brazzaville, Loicia Martial

This Sunday afternoon, Julien Ngokouba, 67, a former worker at the Brazzaville town hall, who retired seven years ago after 36 years of loyal service, came to meet another retired friend in a neighborhood north of the capital.

He wears a plaid shirt which obviously has lost its color. His pairs of sneakers have lost their shine. This head of the family, for lack of a pension, lives in a chaotic social situation.

It’s difficult: my wife has twice had a stroke (cerebral vascular accident); but no support. My children no longer attend, for lack of support. At school, we ask for insurance and so on. I can’t pay, so the kids hang around the house. Water and electricity were cut off. I have no more. My only light is the candle “.

Kanga Elenga, 67, also retired, has not received a penny for six years. “ There are no pensions. As we speak, all the files compiled by retirees are blocked in the office of the director of human resources at the town hall. We have become beggars. Today, I can come to your house, if you have 1,000 CFA francs, you give it to me and I give it to my wife so that she can manage with it. We live like beggars. It’s difficult. It’s hard “.

The 600 pensioners have planned sit-ins every Tuesday and Friday until they are heard.
