Even after dominating popular culture for over forty years, Star Wars has proven as valid today as it was in the past. The epic space opera has expanded so much that the producers are now resorting to telling origin stories of the beloved original cast.
With more Star Wars TV shows including Obi-Wan Kenobi and the epic Andor among them, and the next new season of The Mandolorian, this year might be a better time to reconnect with some of the best in the Star Wars universe.
In this list, you can see who are the 7 best Star Wars characters in our opinion.
7 of the Best Characters in the Star Wars Universe
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan embarked on his path to greatness after witnessing the death of his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, becoming the first Jedi to defeat a Sith in centuries. Darth Maul didn’t quite die after this encounter, but the victory ensured Obi-Wan’s rise through the Jedi ranks. Over the next ten years, he gained a reputation as a reliable, determined Jedi and mentor to Anakin Skywalker.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- Extremely skilled in lightsaber combat among the greatest duelists in the Jedi Order.
- Highly compatible with the Force, he can use a variety of Force abilities both in and out of combat.
During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan became a general in the Republic army and used his open-minded thinking skills to save Chancellor Palpatine and defeat the nearly unkillable General Grievous. At the end of the war, he defeated his apprentice, who grew stronger as Darth Vader. While in exile, Obi-Wan reached an enlightened state and was able to kill Darth Maul before giving Luke Skywalker a few hours of training.
Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker is arguably one of the most powerful Jedi ever. After several hours of training, he used the Force to accurately aim a torpedo at a meter-diameter target while flying at high speed. A few years later, Luke faced Darth Vader and gave the Sith Lord his toughest battle in years. Luke’s powers continued to increase throughout his life, even after he left the Jedi ways behind.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- Achieved innate Force powers with little training
- Helped to establish a new Jedi Order and inspire a new generation of Force users and the resistance
Luke was a naturally gifted pilot and had the ability to pilot warships with almost no formal training. Its greatest achievement is also its most meaningful. Despite his failures as a teacher, Luke recognized the hopeful potential in The Last Jedi. When the Resistance needed hope most, Kylo sent an astral projection across the galaxy to intimidate and distract Ren. Luke’s nephew was so convinced he was standing before his old mentor that he let the heroes escape right under his nose.
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano gained a reputation not only as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, but also as a valiant warrior who protected her soldiers and transcended the thinking of the Jedi Order. He was particularly adept at integrating his powers into his fights; This was a difficult task, considering he was known to wield dual weapons in the Jar’Kai style.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- He fought on the front lines of the Clone Wars, even commanding troops as a Padawan.
- He avoided capture by both the Jedi and the new Empire in order to survive long after the Clone Wars ended.
Ahsoka was so well trained in two lightsabers that she was able to fend off both Vader and Sidious at the same time. He also single-handedly captured the four-armed General Grievous as a teenager and survived. As an adult, he could easily take down multiple interrogators at once and became sufficiently in tune with the Force to experience premonitions and visions at will.
yoda
In terms of Pure Force powers, no one in the Star Wars canon comes close to matching Master Yoda. Living long enough to train many generations of Jedi masters, Yoda was the leader of the Jedi Order centuries before his fall. Strong against the Force even in his old age, Yoda waved a finger to lift an entire starship in one of the first major Force uses that Force telekinesis audiences have ever seen.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- He has trained countless Jedi and helped the Jedi Order flourish over the centuries.
- He joined the Force to continue mentoring his students even after his death.
After his death and subsequent resurrection as a Force ghost, Yoda had a strong enough bond with the Force that he could summon a lightning strike to a precise target. Yoda wasn’t awkward either, with a lightsaber displaying a unique fighting style that included lots of somersaults and acrobatics to compensate for his small physique.
Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker
Few Star Wars characters can match the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker. Despite his defeats – losing his arm to Count Dooku, the rest of his body to Obi-Wan, and pretty much everything else to Palpatine’s machinations – Vader has accomplished many feats previously believed impossible. Darth Vader led the Jedi Purge and nearly single-handedly destroyed the old order.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- He fought for the Republic as a powerful commander, pilot and soldier during the Clone Wars.
- He went against his master in his final moments to try to bring balance to the Force.
Before becoming Vader, however, Anakin Skywalker was a powerful and respected Republic general in the Clone Wars. Anakin got off to humble beginnings as a slave boy at Tattooine and has grown to become one of the most powerful and important people in the galaxy.
Rey Skywalker
The protagonist of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy joins Anakin and Luke Skywalker as an extraordinarily powerful Force user from seemingly humble beginnings. Rey went head-to-head with Kylo Ren on one of his first big outings with the Resistance and was able to hold him back long enough to escape in his injured state.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- Channeled the collective strength of all previous Jedi to defeat Darth Sidious
- Skilled at resisting mind probes, removing objects, and Jedi mind games.
- He showed an innate talent for the use of force.
Rey was instrumental in the Resistance’s final moves against the First Order, especially after she had further developed her abilities. His place in the Palpatine dynasty places him among the greatest Force users of all time, and he developed this inherited power with the help of great power users like Luke and Leia.
Darth Revan
Darth Revan is the protagonist of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Much of Revan’s story is now reduced to Legends, and their existence in the current canon is largely a mystery. In Legends, Revan and his apprentice, Darth Malak, were Jedi who disappeared after the Mandalorian Wars and returned with immense power and set their sights on a new Sith Empire.
Major Skills and Abilities:
- Fought against Jedi, Sith, and Mandalorians in battle
- Highly honed predictive Force abilities
- He is known for winning the Mandalorian Wars with his battlefield tactical prowess.
They succeeded, but Malak wanted more. He overthrew his master Revan and became the new Sith Emperor. Revan survived but lost their memory. Revan would then return to overthrow Malak and, at the player’s choice, attempt to revive the Jedi Order or become a Sith Lord once again.
