Real Madrid star exposed to racism

A video uploaded by Spanish media on Sunday shows Cadiz fans shouting abuse at Rüdiger after he made his way to the stands to give away his shirt to what appeared to be a Madrid supporter. Objects were also thrown at the German defender.

Rüdiger exchanged a few words with some of the fans who shouted at him before giving away his shirt.

The incident occurred after Madrid’s 2-0 win against relegation-threatened Cadiz.

Several cases of racism have occurred in the Spanish league this season. Among other things, Rüdiger’s teammate Vinícius Júnior has been a target during several matches. Earlier this month, the Brazilian forward testified against a Mallorca fan accused of calling him “monkey” during a match. The same fan was also accused of insulting Villarreal midfielder Samuel Chukwueze in another league match.

The Spanish league has submitted several formal complaints to the authorities, regarding insults against Vinícius, a number of which have already been tabled. In addition, the league has also increased the number of monitors at the team’s matches to identify the culprits in case it happens again.

Valladolid recently suspended twelve season ticket holders during the investigation into alleged verbal abuse against Vinícius.
