Daisy Ridley returns to the big screen as Rey Skywalker. The as yet untitled sequel is set 15 years after the sequel trilogy and revolves around the new Jedi order, which is created by Rey. In book form, Star Wars has already succeeded in establishing an era with new characters, worlds and conflicts. The Rey film has to rethink many aspects of Star Wars in order not to be laser-seized by the next Death Star. A digitally rejuvenated Luke Skywalker, as it haunts the Star Wars series The Mandalorian and The Book by Boba Fett, has no place here. Kennedy is also aware of this. She told IGN during the Star Wars Celebration:
I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or force spirits, but certainly the spirit of what will [Luke Skywalker] for Rey means a crucial role [in dem neuen Film] play.

At a time when legacy characters are treated with kid gloves, it was refreshing to see how human and relatable Johnson was to the larger-than-life Star Wars character uncomfortable thoughts designed. By the end of Episode 8, Luke’s legacy has fundamentally changed. The vulnerability Johnson found in the character eventually made her bigger. Episode 9 was more reserved.
Star Wars finally unleashes Daisy Ridley and Rey without loads of the old trilogy
Daisy Ridley deserves a Star Wars film that isn’t defined by the discourse surrounding the true identities of Rey’s parents. She has found her own place at the end of The Rise of Skywalker after spending three films searching among the characters of the original trilogy. Now Star Wars can start completely and paint a bright picture of the galaxy like we’ve never seen before.
For that reason alone, the Rey film is one of the most exciting announcements of Star Wars Celebration 2023. Almost ten years after casting, Lucasfilm is ready to unleash Ridley as a big star and Rey as a Jedi Master. The enthusiastic response Ridley’s Star Wars return received at Celebration confirms the decision. She is currently the most valuable star of the franchise.
