A train carrying dangerous goods derailed in the US state of Maine.
In a statement from the Rockwood Fire and Rescue Unit, it was announced that a train carrying dangerous goods derailed in the town of Rockwood, in rural Maine.
In the photo published regarding the incident, it was seen that the wagons derailed due to the accident caught fire, and the residents of the region were called to stay away from the scene.
Information on whether there were any injuries in the accident was not shared.
INCREASING TRAIN ACCIDENTS IN THE USA
On February 3, 50 cars of the 150-car train belonging to Norfolk Southern, carrying chemicals on the railroad near East Palestine town of the US state of Ohio, derailed and exploded. After the accident, the chemicals spread around and caused an environmental disaster, and it was decided to evacuate the residents due to the high amount of toxic chemicals.
While the accident did not fall from the public’s agenda for a long time, another freight train belonging to the same company crashed again in Springfield, Ohio a month later. In the second accident on March 4, in which 20 wagons derailed, no one was killed or injured, and it was reported that there was no leakage of dangerous goods, and residents were advised to stay in a safe area for precautionary purposes only.
In the state of Minnesota, 800 people in the region were evacuated after the train carrying ethanol derailed and caught fire on March 30. On April 3, a train accident occurred in the state of Montana, in which 25 wagons derailed.
Federal officials and members of Congress in the US are urging train operators to take more safety precautions due to environmental disasters, especially following the train crashes carrying dangerous chemicals in Ohio and Minnesota.
According to federal records, there are over 1,000 train crashes in the United States each year. (AA)
