An unexpected guest will walk the red carpet of the next edition of the Met Gala, May 1, 2023. Any clue? It is covered with hair and belonged to one of the greatest designers of the 20th century.
If there is indeed an evening that the whole flash pack look forward to every year, it’s the MetBall. This charity gala orchestrated by the editor-in-chief of US Vogue, Anna Wintour, has been an essential event on the fashion scene since its creation in 1948. During each edition, a theme is selected in relation to the exhibition that the evening opens, and the handpicked celebrities are instructed to respect it. The 2023 edition, which will take place on 1er May in New York, will honor Karl Lagerfeld and launch the retrospective Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beautyvisible at the Costume Institute from May 5 to July 16, 2023. Among the guests, a guest very special star should strike a pose on the red carpet: Choupettethe 11-year-old sacred Birman cat of the creator who died in 2019.
The news was confirmed by the New York Post on Monday, April 10, 2023. “She got the invitation”confirmed Lucas Berullier, Choupette’s agent at the newspaper. The latter said about the Met Gala: “It’s an event in honor of Karl’s legacy, and Choupette is obviously a central part of the legacy”. The German fashion designer loved his pet and took him everywhere with him when he traveled. A true celebrity, she even has her own Instagram account, followed by more than 136,000 people. In addition to becoming the star at the Met Gala 2023, Choupette is already the most popular feline on glossy paper. THE US Vogue dedicated its May 2023 issue to Karl Lagerfeld. In the pages of the magazine, we see Choupette, all four legs in the air, comfortably installed in the arms of Naomi Campbell. Immortalized by the legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, the British model is standing on the Alexandre III bridge in Paris, not far from the Grand Palais where the collections of the Chanel house have been parading for years.
