With the XDefiant Beta, Ubisoft is bringing a competitor to CoD that you can currently test for free

XDefiant, a new arena shooter from Ubisoft that could rival Call of Duty, is currently in beta.

What kind of game is this? XDefiant is an upcoming arena shooter from Ubisoft in which you can embody different factions from Ubisoft games. While there is currently no official release date, it is already known that XDefiant will be a free-to-play title.

Also, a closed beta is currently running on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, for which you can get an invite link from Twitch Drops. The beta runs until April 23rd.

What is the game principle? In XDefiant, you compete against other players in different PvP modes like Domination and Payload and try to achieve victory for your team. The shooter does not use “skill-based matchmaking” (sbmm) in the casual playlists, which should make CoD fans especially happy. There will also be a ranked mode.

With factions drawn from various Ubisoft games, XDefiant has elements of a hero shooter. So you can be briefly invisible with a “Splinter Cell” character, boost your life points with a freedom fighter from Far Cry 6, or send out a drone with the cleaners from The Division to set your opponents on fire.

Modern mix of fast movement and intuitive gunplay

What sets the gameplay apart? XDefiant is characterized above all by fast movement. The motion sequences are much faster than in other Ubisoft shooters such as Rainbow Six: Siege or The Division.

The gunplay is also very intuitive and easy to master. Accordingly, the low recoil is easily controllable on most weapons and fits comfortably into the movement.

On top of that, depending on your playstyle, you can adjust the attachments on the various weapons, further reducing recoil or, for example, reducing the time it takes you to go into sight (ADS-Time) at the expense of handling.

XDefiant Beta runs until

How can you participate in the beta? To participate in the closed beta from April 13th to 23rd, 2023, you need an invitation link from Ubisoft. You could get it if you registered on the game’s website (via ubisoft.com) in advance of the beta.

You can also get an invite link as a drop when watching an XDefiant stream on Twitch.

Simply connect your Twitch account to your Ubisoft account and watch a partnered streamer of your choice. After 30 minutes you should find an XDefiant drop in your Twitch inventory. You will then receive the invitation link by email.

If XDefiant can make a good impression in the beta and get a lot of things right at release, the shooter is also a candidate for our top 10 best free-to-play shooters of 2023.
