If you have at least three children, you can benefit from the Large Families card and its many advantages. A card that can be ordered online and which is now available in digital form, in dematerialized form!
The Government continues to digitize public services. After setting up a digital identity card with France Identity, testing the dematerialized Vitale card and working on a potential European digital driving licence, he is tackling the Large Families card, as he announces in a statement dated April 12, 2023. As a reminder, this is a card issued by the State to families with at least three minor children, which entitles them to certain price advantages, in particular for SNCF journeys. It costs 18 euros for three years. You can now order or renew it online from a dedicated and simplified portal, but also now obtain it in its dematerialized form, to use it for example on a smartphone. Not bad for a card that was created in… 1921!
What are the conditions for obtaining the Large Families card?
The website public service recalls the criteria for benefiting from the large families card. Also, you must:
- Have at least three children, at least one of whom is a minor (total or joint custody in the event of separation);
- Have had or raised at least five children.
For blended families, the children taken into account are:
- The children of each member of the couple on condition that they have custody of them (and on condition of justifying a judgment, for example a judgment of divorce fixing the residence of the children with them);
- The children born of the new union.
What are the advantages of the Large Families card?
The Large Families card offers various advantages, including reductions on the price of SNCF tickets – in 1stD and 2nde class, but the reduction is always calculated on the standard leisure fare or normal fare of 2nde class –, the rate of which varies according to the number of children and their age:
- 3 children: 30% reduction on the train ticket;
- 4 children: 40% reduction on the train ticket;
- 5 children: 50% reduction on the train ticket;
- 6 or more children: 75% reduction on the train ticket;
- 3 children, 2 of whom (maximum) are minors at the time of subscription: 30% reduction on the train ticket;
- 5 children (now adults): 30% reduction on the train ticket.
In the Paris region, under certain conditions to be seen with the carriers, the Large Families card allows you to benefit from a 50% reduction on SNCF and RATP transport tickets in Ile-de-France. Some brands, displaying the Large Families logo, can offer discounts to cardholders, whether for childcare services, mutual insurance companies, sports brands, education, hotels, camping, holidays… The complete list of partners is available here.
How do I obtain the Large Families card?
To obtain the Large Families card, both in physical and dematerialized version, you must go to the site carte-families-many.gouv.fr.
Order a Large Families card if you don’t have an account/never ordered a card
► Go to the site and click on the button Order on one of the scrolling images.
► A pop-up window appears. Check your eligibility using the simulator, indicating your family status, the number of children in the household as well as those who are adults, then create your account. Then click on Check your eligibility.
► You then find out if you are eligible or not, and at what rate. If so, click the button create my account.
► A new page opens. Enter your email address in the corresponding fields, then click on Continue.
► A message informs you that the operation was successful. Go to your mailbox and work on the email sent to you. Click on Account creation.
► You are back on a web page. Fill in the different fields, check the different boxes and click on the button Createat the bottom right.
► A pop-up window will open telling you that your profile has been saved and an email to reset your password has been sent to you. Open your email and click Create my password.
► You will be redirected to a new web page. Enter your password and click on the blue button Validate your password. There you go, all you have to do is log in!
Order a Large Families card if you already have an account and/or a physical card
► Go to the site and click on Log intop right.
► Enter your identifiers and click on the blue button To log in.
► On the page Welcome, Click on the button Order on one of the scrolling images.
► A pop-up window appears. Check your eligibility again using the simulator, indicating your family status, the number of children in the household as well as those who are adults, then create your account. Then click on Recalculate your eligibility.
► You then find out if you are eligible or not, and at what rate. If so, click the button Order my cards. There you go, all you have to do is provide the supporting documents in case some are necessary!
Do not forget to give all your personal information and attach the supporting documents. You must then wait for your file to be validated to retrieve your card in a dematerialized version on your personal space. The physical card will be shipped to you a few days later. Please note that the application fee is 18 euros!
