Ubisoft Kicks Rainbow Six Siege Twitch Streamer For Saying Black Character

Ubisoft has announced that it is removing Twitch streamer Thaqil’s talisman from Rainbow Six Siege after the content creator was noticed with some racist rants and jokes about Castle, a Black Operator in Rainbow Six Siege.

Who is the streamer Thaqil and what does he have to do with the game?

  • Thaqil was the #35 biggest Rainbow Six Siege Twitch streamer in the last month.
  • Last year he showed the shooter for 769 hours and had an average of 403 viewers.
  • Thaqil is one of the streamers who have a “charm” (talisman) in the game. These are cosmetic items that can be attached to weapons in Rainbow Six Siege.
  • Below on the left we see the talisman of Thaqil.

Star streamers like shroud or AnneMuniton have such talismans in the game, but there is also a program that any streamer can participate in, showing 20 hours of Rainbow Six Siege a month and entertaining more than 150 simultaneous viewers.

Bad sayings about black operator spread on TikTok

What did the streamer do? The streamer made some racist slurs about black operator Castle in TikTok videos. The videos have since been deleted, but you can view them on Twitter.

So he played “Kiss – Marry – Avoid” and said in “Avoid” – Castle, because he was black – then he corrected himself and made a strange saying about what he actually meant.

In addition, in a “challenge to find an operator”, he clearly assigned the letter “N” to Castle and associated Castle with a banana.

Ubisoft says: There was a statement from Ubisoft. You stop working with Thaqil. We have zero tolerance for racism or harassment. Thaqil’s posts are a breach of Ubisoft’s code of conduct, so his talisman will be removed from Rainbow Six Siege.

This is what the streamer says: The streamer says he did it on purpose. His idea wasn’t to be racist though, he wanted to come across as edgy and make people laugh.

But now he realizes his attempts to make fun of it came off the wrong way. But he didn’t want to discriminate against anyone. On Twitter he says (via twitlonger):

sorry to everyone i have hurt, will be more careful with my words in the future and become a better person. We move forward and remember: no matter who you are or who you identify as, who you want to be, you are amazing and you are loved.

If that isn’t an apology from the bottom of my heart…
