It’s a case that continues to embarrass the US government and could have repercussions. Leaks of confidential documents, with possible information on the war in Ukraine, tactics, ammunition, training of soldiers, or even information on Israel and South Korea. This Thursday, April 13, the American president spoke on this sensitive subject. But a doubt remains, it is not certain that the documents are authentic.
On the sidelines of a visit to Ireland, US President Joe Biden was questioned on this subject. He said to himself ” worried that this happened “, without explicitly confirming that they were indeed authentic documents of the American intelligence services.
Earlier in the week, the spokesman for the United States National Security Council, which reports directly to the White House, had implied that the documents could be real. And on condition of anonymity, official sources confirmed to American newspapers that at least part of the documents were authentic.
However, this does not mean that the information they contain is all true. In addition, at least one of the shared files was modified after its publication, then shared on social networks with figures different from those which appeared at the start.
So who is behind this leak? The daily The Washington Post painted Wednesday evening the portrait of the man who would be at the origin of the leak, on the basis of photos, videos, but also the testimony of one of his friends.
He is said to be in his twenties, a firearms enthusiast, racist, and works on a military base. It is from there that he would have extracted these documents to photograph them then publish them on a private discussion forum of about twenty members, Americans and foreigners.
A criminal investigation has been opened in the United States to verify with certainty the authenticity of the documents, their origin, and to identify the author or authors of these leaks.
