The Harry Potter series has been officially ordered and will air on (HBO) Max. The release date and cast are not yet known. But the project is far from being unanimous with the fans.
[Mis à jour le 13 avril 2023 à 9h29] It’s now official: Harry Potter will be well adapted as a television series. The Warner Bros group. Discovery confirmed this Wednesday, April 12 the information revealed a few days earlier by the media Bloomberg: the adventures of the sorcerer with the scar will be entitled to a new adaptation on small screen, on Max (formerly HBO Max). Each season will adapt a volume of the saga. In fact, the cast that we know through the successful film saga will not be present, since it takes actors who can grow with the plot of the characters, aged 11 to 17 years old.
For now, we do not know the release date of this Harry Potter series. The cast has not been revealed either, and Warner Bros has confirmed that the seven seasons will feature a completely different cast from the feature films. JK Rowlingregularly lambasted for her remarks deemed transphobic, will be executive producer of the series.
The announcement of the Harry Potter series has left fans perplexed: some are delighted to find the story on the small screen in an adaptation that aims to be more faithful than the films, others criticize that we bring it up to date. the saga despite the transphobic remarks of JK Rowling, finally, some deplore that we are re-adapting an existing and popular franchise, while the first film was released only 20 years ago. In addition, the visuals, music and actors of the films are still freshly associated with the saga: the challenge is therefore significant for Warner and HBO.
Remember that if this Harry Potter series project seems well advanced, nothing has yet been finalized, and we therefore do not know, logically, the release date yet. Discussions are still ongoing according to Bloomberg and the formal agreement needs to be signed.
While the Harry Potter series project is not officially validated, we cannot help but wonder about the possible casting. The series would indeed only come out about twenty years after the launch of the cinematographic saga. In the minds of fans, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are still attached to the characters of Harry, Hermione and Ron. It’s hard to imagine new performers already, especially since the original actors are currently in their thirties. If they have already shared their desire to play, in the future, professors at Hogwarts in the event of a complete reboot of the franchise, it is difficult to imagine them taking on the features of Snape or even McGonagall in this series project. We will still have to wait to know if the series is confirmed, and an official announcement on the project and the casting, to be fixed.
