Ayuso’s four reasons for not aspiring to the presidency of the PP
The convulsive days continue in the PP. The party heads sooner or later to an extraordinary congress in which a new president will be elected. Alberto Nunez feijoopresident of Galicia, is right now the better positioned in a race in which Isabel Díaz Ayuso will not participate.
The Madrid regional leader has reiterated on many occasions that its site, at the moment, is in Madrid: “My place is in Madrid. My commitment is and will be in Madrid,” he reiterated in his public act yesterday in Boadilla del Monte.
But Ayuso has three more reasons to decline the presidency of the PP for now. On the one hand, he trusts Feijóo, he sees him as a great alternative to lead a beaten party who aspires to govern again in La Moncloa in 2023. Secondly, Ayuso is aware that his image could have been damaged after all the internal crisis unleashed in the formation and considers it important to repair that image despite the continuous shows of support received, including in demonstrations on Génova Street.
And finally, Ayuso and her team explain that right now, as she is not a deputy in Congress, she could not confront Pedro Sánchez as she does not have a seat in Parliament, a reason that they consider important in their environment. An aspect, on the other hand, that Feijóo would also suffer.
