Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the Myanmar military junta, confirms that they attacked the village of Pazigyi in the central part of the country.
Some of the dead are said to have been rebels in uniform, while “some people may have been wearing civilian clothes”.
The UN human rights chief has condemned the attack, in which a local democracy group and witnesses say bombs were dropped on a crowd, followed by a helicopter attack half an hour after the airstrike.
