STAR WARS. During Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm made several announcements about the franchise’s upcoming projects. We detail all the information on the next films.

[Mis à jour le 11 avril 2023 à 10h45] Easter weekend was a rewarding one for fans in the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Celebration was held in London from April 7-10. The opportunity for Disney and Lucasfilm to make many announcements about the future of the franchise on the small and big screen.

It has thus been announced that three new Star Wars films have been ordered. One of them, untitled for the moment, will be devoted to Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. The plot will take place fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and will reveal the creation of a new Jedi Order. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).

A second Star Wars movie directed by Dave Filoni will center on the New Republic. The goal displayed by Kathleen Kennedy: to conclude the “Mandoverse” (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka). A third film directed by James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones 5…) will finally focus on the origins of the Force and the story of the first Jedi. The plot will take place 25,000 years before The Phantom Menace. For now, the release dates of these different projects have not been announced. In addition, Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Taika Waititi is continuing to work on her Star Wars film project, but that the screenplay has not yet been completed. Rian Johnson’s trilogy is also not abandoned, the boss of Lucasfilm having assured Variety that the director was currently too busy on other projects.

Created by George Lucas in 1977, the Star Wars saga is produced by Lucasfilm, a studio owned by Disney since 2014. We follow the journey of the Skywalker family in a distant galaxy where the Jedi knights try to maintain peace and balance. through Force powers and their lightsabers. The Disney + catalog has many films from the Star Wars franchise since its launch in France on April 7, 2020. In 2012, Mickey’s firm bought Lucasfilm, and now owns the rights to productions that take place in the distant galaxy, very distant. Here is the complete list of Star Wars films to see on Disney + at the launch of the streaming platform. The media chronology means that films released in theaters less than three years ago are not yet in the catalog.

Also note that Disney+ offers its subscribers a few short films featuring characters made of LEGO bricks in the Star Wars universe. These are also the stars of a special “Happy Holidays” episode produced in 2020 for the Christmas holidays.

  • The Mandalorian : This one features a bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) in Mandalorian armor whose mission is to recover a young person of Yoda’s species. But the Mandalorian will quickly ignore his mission orders and leave to travel the galaxy in search of meaning and information on this famous “Baby Yoda”, says Grogu.
  • Obi Wan Kenobi : Ewan McGregor returns to the role of the Jedi Master, still haunted by the corruption of Anakin Skywalker who became Darth Vader. The plot takes place several years after Revenge of the Siths.
  • Andor : Five years before the events of Rogue One, Cassian Andor participates in the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance, which resists against the Galactic Empire.
  • Boba Fett’s Book : A series derived from The Mandalorian was born at the end of 2021 with The Book of Boba Fett, a series dedicated to the Mandalorian bounty hunter from The Empire Strikes Back. It follows up on season 2 of Mandalorian and gives more information on what became of Boba Fett after Return of the Jedi.
  • Star Wars Clone War : an animated series featuring Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and his padawan Ahsoka Tano during the clone wars between episodes 2 and 3 of the saga.
  • Star Wars The Bad Batch : the spin-off of Clone Wars, which follows a team of clones considered flawed in very dangerous adventures.
  • star wars rebels is a series about the adventures of a young Jedi apprentice named Ezra in his quest to learn from his master Kanan, who is part of a band of Rebels brought to fight against the Galactic Empire.
  • Star Wars: Visions : an anthology of animated shorts featuring never-before-seen stories set in the Star Wars universe.
  • Tales of the Jedi : directed by Dave Filoni and Charles Murray, this series tells the past of Jedi from the prelogy.
  • star wars resistance : This series by Dave Filoni recounts the few months preceding The Force Awakens.
  • Ahsoka : Disney+ series written by Dave Filon and produced by Jon Favreau and Filon. Set in the timeline of The Mandalorian series, this series is dedicated to the character of Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker who fled the Jedi order. It is available on Disney+ from August 2023.
  • lando : Disney+ series dedicated to Lando Calrissian. “At the beginning of its development”, this new creation is the charge of Justin Simien to whom we owe Dear White People.
  • The Acolyte : After Russian Doll, Leslye Headland will create a Star Wars series for Disney+. This is set to be a mystery thriller set in the final days of the Great Republic era, at a time when the powers of the Dark Side are emerging.
  • A Droid Story : Lucasfilm Animation and ILM are teaming up to create an animated series for Disney+ where we will follow a droid hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO.
  • Rogue Squadron : Directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Rogue Squadron is scheduled for Christmas 2023. The very first Star Wars film directed by a woman, this one is dedicated to the Rogue Squadron led by X-Wing pilots that we knows well since they are the ones that Luke joins in A New Hope before destroying the Death Star. “The story will introduce a new generation of starship pilots on a quest to earn their stripes as they risk their lives in this high-speed adventure that will lead the saga into a new era of the galaxy” promises the synopsis published by StarWars.com.
  • A film about the New Jedi Order : Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, this film will be set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Rey will attempt to create a new Jedi Order.
  • A film about The New Republic : Directed by Dave Filoni, this feature film will conclude the “Mandoverse”.
  • A movie about the First Jedi : This origin-story of the Jedi and the Force will be directed by James Mangold. It takes place 25,000 years before The Phantom Menace.
  • Taika Waititi’s film : still in project, the scenario is not finished
  • The Rian Johnson Trilogy : still in the works, Lucasfilm is waiting for Rian Johnson’s schedule to become available.
