Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance Saturday in the area of Fifth Street in Chatham.
Upon arrival, officers located two people who advised that while waiting in line at a soup kitchen, they had been assaulted by an unknown man.
Police located the suspect still at the scene and placed him under arrest as a result of the investigation.
The 29-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of assault and taken to headquarters, where he was later released with a court date.
Impaired charge laid after traffic stop
On Saturday, police received multiple complaints of an erratic driver in the area of Queen’s Line, allegedly traveling at high rates of speed and swerving across the road.
A short time later on Middle Line, police allegedly clocked the vehicle at approximately 166km/h, and a traffic stop was initiated.
Police believed the driver was impaired by alcohol and a roadside breath test was administered. The man was then arrested and taken to headquarters, where two breath samples allegedly registered over the legal limit.
The Windsor man was charged with impaired operation and stunt driving. He was later released with a short date.
