A four-storey apartment building collapsed overnight from Saturday to Sunday in central Marseille, injuring at least five people.
The shock in Marseilles. Around 12:40 a.m. on the night of Saturday April 8 to Sunday April 9, a four-storey apartment building collapsed at 17 rue de Tivoli, in the center of Marseille. A fire is still in progress under the rubble and prevents the firefighters present on the spot from intervening. The collapse weakened the building located at number 15. “It collapsed in a second part of the intervention at the very beginning of the morning”, indicated the marine firefighters. Part of the building at 19 rue de Tivoli was partially washed away.
The collapse of number 15 complicates the work of firefighters in the search for victims. The apartments of 15 and 19 were “very quickly evacuated from their occupants, in particular by using aerial means. This made it possible to recover eight people who had taken refuge on a balcony”, assured the marine firefighters. At least 5 injured are to be deplored and the search is continuing to try to find any missing inhabitants.
