Drone helps nab break in suspect in Ridgetown

Chatham-Kent police were dispatched to an active break and enter in Ridgetown earlier Saturday.

The owner of a business spotted a masked male suspect inside his store. Police responded with multiple units and discovered the suspect had fled.

Police contained the search area and deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with thermal vision.

A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent man was located and charged with break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property and disguise with intent.

He was also wanted for allegedly failing to attend court and breaching a curfew condition. He was held pending a bail hearing.

Woman arrested for impaired driving after low-speed chase

Early Saturday, police responded to a possible impaired driver in Chatham.

The suspect was located and allegedly failed to stop for police, maintaining speeds between 15km/h and 35km/h.

A low-speed pursuit was engaged, as police believed the driver to be impaired. Officers were able to perform a successful tandem stop of the vehicle.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested and taken to headquarters.

A drug recognition expert alleged the accused was intoxicated by drug. However, during the procedure, the accused allegedly refused to comply with a lawful demand by the officer and was charged with refusal to comply and operation while impaired.

The vehicle was impounded and the accused had his driver’s license suspended. She was released when sober with a short date.
