In Palia, elements that serve more as side tasks in other MMORPGs should become the main occupation. So everything revolves around cooking, growing food, housing or forging good relationships with the neighborhood. We at MeinMMO tell you everything important about the MMO.
What kind of game is this? Palia is being developed by an indie studio made up of gaming veterans from Blizzard and Riot Games. They took games like Animal Crossing as a model and want to create an MMORPG from them:
Palia is to become Free2Play and says of itself that it wants to offer the “fairest Free2Play”.
The announcement trailer gives you a first insight into the MMO:
Palia is in alpha, but there is no release date yet
Palia does not currently have a fixed release date. However, the first alpha tests have been running since 2022.
Palia is only coming out for PC for now.
Palia does not offer backer packs or guaranteed access to the Alpha. However, you can apply for an alpha key on the official website. With a little luck you will be selected. However, there is still an NDA on the current tests, so you are not allowed to talk about the experiences.
So far there has been no concrete statement on this. However, we’re still scheduled to see more of the game in 2023, meaning by then the current NDA could fall.
There is no statement on this yet.
8 Life Skills and Relationships with NPCs
What exactly does Palia’s gameplay look like? There hasn’t been much gameplay yet, but the developers have already described in quite some detail what you can do in the MMORPG.
Palia should be a feel-good game, without pressure and without stress. You enter a colorful world that is reminiscent of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There will be PvE battles, but you should be able to avoid them completely if you don’t feel like it.
Those who want to compete with each other will also be able to take part in small and varied competitions, such as cooking or fishing duels. But these are also completely optional and are intended to remind you of an afternoon game of cards or a race on the beach. Just no stress is the motto.
What activities does the game offer? In addition to the competitions mentioned above and the relationships with NPCs, the game offers you 8 life skills in particular, which you are also used to from classic MMORPGs:
You will be able to learn and level all skills at the same time. There should be a quest that introduces you to the activity. After that, you are free to use them or ignore them.
There is also a big focus on “fashion”. You should be able to find and wear different outfits. You should also be able to change your look with just a few clicks via a cloakroom system. Over time, the developers want to implement more and more outfits, and it’s always about the looks. They will not offer any special attributes or benefits.
How is the story? You play people who are a “legendary people” in the world of Palia. Because at the peak of their creative power, they suddenly disappeared and no one knew why. Now, after thousands of years, humans have suddenly reappeared and you must make a new home in the unknown world.
However, Palia should not be a strong story game. The story develops more as you build friendships with NPCs. Each of them has a unique backstory, which will gradually lead you closer to the answer to the disappearance of humans.
Here you can see the day/night cycle of Palia:
“We offer the fairest Free2Play”
How is Palia monetized? In order to finance the MMORPG, a shop is introduced, which should adhere to the following rules:
The developers emphasize that they want to “win together with the players”. The team is committed to paying good wages and benefits and therefore needs to make money with Palia. But they don’t want to force players to pay for anything. The goal is to find the players who “like to spend money”.
The testers were able to destroy the servers by baking cakes
How has the alpha testing gone so far? So far, over 600,000 people are said to have applied to Palia’s alpha tests (via Twitter). That’s a proud number. However, since there is a non-disclosure agreement on the tests, there are only a few statements about the tests.
However, the developers occasionally tell strange stories in their blog.
What do you say to Palia? Does the concept appeal to you or do you need combat and PvP in an MMORPG? Feel free to write it in the comments.
