Evan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal journalist who was arrested by Russian security services in late March, has been charged with espionage on behalf of the United States, according to Russian state media.
At the time of his arrest, he was working on an investigation into the Wagner paramilitary group. He is alleged to have been caught red-handed when he allegedly tried to get information about the Russian military.
The US is working “carefully but quickly” to get Gershkovich released and, according to Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, “there is no doubt that he was arrested on false grounds.”
