IVO, the Inspectorate for Care and Care, has found deficiencies in the documentation, both for the reasons for the coercive measure and whether follow-up calls have been offered. An example is a twelve-year-old patient who has been subjected to hundreds of coercive measures, but the documentation only contains information about four follow-up calls.
The closed psychiatric compulsory care of young patients is strictly regulated by law (LPT). If a patient is to be tube-fed against their will or restrained, there must be special reasons and everything must be properly documented.
– During 2020 and 2021, the number of young anorexia patients increased throughout the country, so here too, and unfortunately some were so bad there that they would have starved to death if we hadn’t decided to force-feed them, says Tove Marthin.
Visited without writing it up
– We have not done wrong to the patients, but in the documentation, then sometimes it is not even the best for the patient to carry out a conversation immediately after a coercive measure, but we always offer.
IVO has also criticized that staff have searched patients without writing it in the medical record.
– We can’t risk bringing in knives or pieces of glass, but every visitation within the detention center requires a doctor’s decision and we probably have to repeat that here. But on the whole, we provide excellent care and I am proud of my talented staff, says Tove Marthin.
