81-year-old Barbro gave up her dream of a sports career after an injury – almost 60 years later she started athletics again. Now she has just won three medals in the veteran WC. – I can be satisfied with two silver and one gold. 81-year-old Barbro went to the Veteran World Championships in athletics in Poland and came home with two silvers and a gold. In the high jump, she jumped 1.13 meters, which broke a record both in the north and for Barbro herself. She also won gold in the long jump and silver in the triple jump. – I can be satisfied with two silver and one gold, she says in Nyhetsmorgon. She says that the veterans are good at encouraging each other in the competition. – I get tagged more than nervous, but of course you tremble when you stand there. Put the dream aside Barbro Gadle, from Uppsala, competed as a youngster and was also at the SM. But an injury put an end to the sports career. During training, her muscle cooled down: – Bang, then the thigh muscle went off, she tells Nyhetsmorgon’s reporter Carolin Björnerhag. Instead, she started working in the tourism industry. It would then take almost 60 years before she started athletics again. In the spring of 2016, she saw an ad in the newspaper saying that you could join a veterans’ group and train in outdoor sports. – I went there and found my way into the gymnasium and carefully asked if I could join.
