Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Milan – and made the club champions again.
But it could have been a completely different club choice, now reveals the icon Fabio Cannavaro.
– There is probably remorse on his part, he says.
When Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed for LA Galaxy in MLS, many probably thought that his days in a top European league were numbered. However, after completely dominating, Ibrahimovic opted to return to Italy, and it has proved to be a good choice.
Revealing the secret
Ibrahimovic has had his fair share of injury problems, but has been hailed for his incredible leadership skills, and was singled out as key as Milan regained the league title last year. But it was not far from the outcome being completely different. It was not obvious to Ibrahimovic that it would be Milan.
At least not if Italian defensive icon Fabio Cannavaro is to be believed. In an interview with DAZN, which Calciomercato also wrote about, Cannavaro reveals a memory he has with Ibrahimovic.
– This story is one hundred percent true. We rode the Vespa through the streets of Naples and he really likes it. “Ibra loves Naples, and I think he regrets not following in Maradona’s footsteps,” Cannavaro said.

Therefore, the deal was stopped
Cannavaro also believes that there was a real interest from Napoli, but that it changed in connection with a change of coach. Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly wanted to sign the Swede, but when Gennaro Gattuso suddenly replaced Carlo Ancelotti, everything changed.
– As I understand it, De Laurentiis wanted to take him to Naples, but Gattuso stopped the deal, says Cannavaro.
Instead, it was Milan for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and it was a success, with the league title in his first full year after his return. Ibrahimovic was subsequently forced to undergo surgery on his knee, from which he recently returned.
