After an interview with Micael Bindefeld about surrogacy, Carina Bergfeldt’s program was reported to the Review Board. Now she responds to the criticism. – I understand that people think we should have asked more critical questions, but when I look at the interview again, I see that I asked them, she says. In March, Micael Bindefeld and his husband Nicklas Sigurdsson were guests on Carina Bergfeldt’s talk show on SVT. They talked about how, a few years ago, the couple had their son via a surrogate mother in the United States. The program was reported to the Review Board after the interview. And Carina Bergfeldt received harsh criticism as it is believed that she did not ask enough critical questions about surrogacy. – I understand that people are upset. I understand that people think we should have asked more critical questions, but when I look at the interview again, I see that I asked them. – I said it was controversial. I asked how they knew the woman was doing it voluntarily. And I asked what kind of contact the woman has with the child today, she says. “Funny that it has become a debate” In Sweden, surrogacy is not allowed, but it is in the USA and other countries as well. And there is a discussion and a debate if it is okay to use surrogate mothers. But Carina Bergfeldt believes that her program was not about that debate. – This was an interview with them and their struggle to become parents. It was not a debate about surrogacy. However, it is very funny that there has been a debate about it afterwards. She believes that it is common for journalists to be reported to the Review Board and thinks it is good that you can do that. She also says that she is used to receiving criticism. – Of course it’s not funny when people say you’re a bad journalist or make personal attacks.
