The Swedish national team skier’s shock message – ending his skiing career and now changing sports completely: “Don’t want to miss out”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Lovisa Modig has done her last ski competition.
Only 30 years old, she ends her career.
But now the investment continues – in a completely different sport.
– Last summer it was like: “Damn, maybe this is something I’ve missed,” she tells NSD.

When Sweden came second in the relay in the World Cup in Lahtis two years ago, Lovisa Modig rode one of the legs. She made her debut in the World Cup in 2017, and has since been part of the national team, but now it’s over.

Changing sports completely

During the spring, she competed for Sweden during the World Cup competitions in Falun, and this weekend she came in fifth place in the SM competition’s three mile race. And it was the very last race of her career. Last week, Modig announced, despite the fact that she is only 30 years old, that her skiing career is over for good.

But that doesn’t mean the elite effort is over. Lovisa Modig now announces that she is continuing the investment – in athletics.

– Yes, I’ve never even considered investing in athletics before. But now (last summer) it was like “Damn, maybe this is something I’ve missed,” she tells NSD.

Reveals the target

Lovisa Modig has previously taken both SM silver in the 10,000 meters and came third in the Tjejmile. She is thus not above running races. But now there is a proper investment in the shorter, longer distances.

– Above all, it is 5,000 and 10,000 meters that I will focus on. I feel that I am not a marathon person, although I would like to run well in the Lidingö race, she says.

Lovisa Modig is also honest that she has a certain competition in mind, as she hopes to participate in Finnkampen in the future.

– Yes, they are the right distances, she says.
