Australian Attorney General Mark Dreyfus says the decision was made after consultation with the country’s intelligence services and that the ban will come into effect as soon as practicable.

Concerns surrounding Tiktok revolve around its owner, China’s Bytedance, and whether China’s government can monitor or profit from users’ data. For example, the United States and the European Parliament have decided to ban public employees from having Tiktok on their work phones. China, in turn, has denied all accusations.
