Energy, Pichetto: reform of the electricity market is necessary

Energy Pichetto reform of the electricity market is necessary

(Finance) – “It is necessary that the market structure should be reviewed according to the ecological transition, also in consideration of the fact that electricity generation from renewables is mainly of the non-programmable type and this raises the need for an effective integration of renewables into the market and into the electricity system”. This is what the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, concluding a conference organized by Elettricità Futura, Utilitalia and Confindustria.

“It is clear that national measures must fit into a framework of defined rules – he underlined -. The European Council invited the commission to work on a structural reform of the electricity market, with the dual objective of guaranteeing Europe’s energy sovereignty and achieving climate neutrality”. “Twenty days ago, with the presentation by the European Commission of a proposal reform the discussion process has started with the aim of reaching an adoption of the provision by 2023 – he added -. It is about mediating between different positions. However, the commitment to make the bills of theelectric energy less conditioned by the volatility of the short-term markets, strengthening the active role and favoring the development and integration in the energy market from renewable sources”.

The reform of the electricity market “is a need that we are all aware of” because “the model current situation is no longer consistent with the situation on the ground”, declared the minister. “Italy’s commitment is to “make the electricity markets more open and more competitive” and to “promote careful consumer protection”, he explained the minister. “The Government’s focus is on the development of the new production market – he added – it is a challenge that not only regulators have, but all those who represent a widespread interest. The Government is fully willing to welcome, listen all positions to take steps together. The goal is to arrive at European regulation within a year. At the same time, develop a national system that works and regulates the next 20 years. It is a challenge for everyone: country, families and enterprises”.
