The riot in Sveaparken in Örebro has been described as one of the most violent attacks against Swedish police.

In court, the police officers who were on the scene testified about the horror.

– I am completely convinced, if we had lost a colleague behind us, then they would have stoned a person to death, says a police officer.

On the videos from the police officers’ own body cameras, you can see how large rocks wind through the air.

71 police officers were injured during the riot in Sveaparken. 50 received such serious injuries that they were forced to seek treatment in hospital.

Eight police cars were damaged, four of them were completely destroyed. According to the police, the damage to the vehicles alone amounts to just over SEK 2.5 million.

37 men have so far been sentenced for the riots in Örebro, for sabotage against blue light operations and violence against officials. The total prison term amounts to over 140 years.

A further ten people will be sentenced shortly.

The police have an ongoing preliminary investigation against 13 suspects.

“So much whipping, so much beating”

In court, the police officers testify about the anger and the rain of stones:

– You see how much stone really just bounces on the bodies of colleagues. They stand and they get so many whips. They take so much beating.

– It feels like you’re in a war zone… So the hatred, because it was hatred. I have never experienced anything like this. I’ve been involved in stone throwing and stuff like that before. But somewhere there are some unwritten rules, you have a certain respect for each other, even if you throw stones. But here, those boundaries didn’t exist.

– They laughed and just, “we’re going to stone you, we’re going to stone you to death because you’re Nazis. You protect racists and Nazis”.

– The dogs took so much beating, they become like targets with stones, kicks, punches. So that they chose no, we don’t use them. It won’t work, because they will probably die. It’s enough to throw a stone in a dog’s head, and it will die too. So they chose not to use them.

“They wanted to kill us”

Several police officers are convinced that it was sheer luck that they got out of there alive:

– I am completely convinced, if we had lost a colleague behind us, then they would have stoned a person to death.

– It is actually the first time in my entire life that I feel that I am afraid for my life.

– Had any policeman been left lying down, I can guarantee that he would not have been killed today. 100 percent.… Here they wanted to kill us.

– It hit a stone in the back. If we hadn’t got that colleague up and made him just crawl backwards, it would have cost… You would have been killed there.

The police testify that the operation was messy and poorly organized. A police officer tells us that the question of why they were actually there arose, what were they protecting. He felt that they were only there to protect a damp lawn.

“No plan found”

– I also felt that there was no plan with the effort itself.

Afterwards, the police officers express pride that they stood up after all:

– I am very proud of my colleagues. We did not back down, but we stood and received. We said that afterwards that we protected democracy with our bodies

– I am very proud of them. All those who were there.
