It was supposed to be a quiet summer vacation at the beach house for Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o) and her family. When dark figures stand in the driveway one evening, the excursion turns into a struggle for survival. The mysterious guests in red overalls shine nightmarish copies of Adelaide, her husband Gabe (Winston Duke), and children Jason (Evan Alex) and Zora (Shahadi Wright Joseph). Their goal: kill their doppelgangers.

Jordan Peele uses the well-known film motif of the doppelganger and spins it into an oppressive one Horror trip between a home invasion thriller and a black humorous slasher. As in Get Out, he combines genre concepts with biting and relevant social criticism. The horror part is corrected upwards this time.

The doppelgangers are not only unrelentingly brutal, but also extremely terrifying. Lupita Nyong’o’s horror Adelaide in particular and her disturbingly scratchy voice are remembered for a long time after watching. Even if Wir offers many funny moments with his often bizarre humor, he also manages to be extremely creepy.
