This year’s Gold Helmet Cup has been decided in six sub-competitions organized by various scooter clubs in the county. The cup is divided into three classes, according to engine type and age of the scooter, as well as a youth class.
However, it’s all about vintage scooters and the newest model year currently allowed is 1990.
– In the future, we will gradually have to admit newer scooters as well, but it must be veteran scooters and a familiar form of competition. This isn’t scootercross, it’s supposed to be old stuff and a family atmosphere. That’s what Peter Karlsson says, firebrand and the one who came up with the name Guldhjälmscupen.
Around 60 participants took part in the weekend’s competitions in Gällö, but during the pandemic they lost quite a few participants.
– It has recovered a bit this year, but we probably lost about a third during the pandemic. It’s also extra sad that we lost several of the girls who kept going, says Peter Karlsson.
“There is nothing closer”
One who traveled far to compete in Gällö is Lars Hammarlund Bolander with his Ockelbo from 1976.
– I live in Ockelbo, so I started at half past three last night to get here. There is no similar event closer to me, so if you want to keep going, all you have to do is go, says Lars.
