Three with PhDs – in the same family

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

During Friday’s event in Umeå, the group of siblings is gathered.

Older sister Lena is a district nurse. She is also active in reindeer husbandry in the Voernese Sami village. Two years ago, she obtained her doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University with the thesis “Saami and the end of life – knowledge of traditions to develop future care”. Here it was about palliative care. Sister number two Åsa Kroik’s study is about a drum that was found near Frostviken in Jämtland. It came the following year, in 2022.

Triss in PhD – full pot

Whether it is something that runs in the family is of course a relevant question.

– It has certainly been a favorable environment for us, smiles David Kroik, who on Friday completed his thesis “The construction of spaces for Saami language use: language revitalisation in educational contexts” and who is today celebrating the completion of his doctoral degree, full pot.

David has previously been a lecturer in Southern Sami at Nord University in Norway.

Hear David Kroik in the clip above talk about his older sisters in the clip above.
