Thousands were denied the chance to apply for CSN’s popular transition study support when the site crashed.

Of the approximately 30,000 who were on the site, only 1,110 were able to submit their application.

– It is absolutely hysterically strange that the application is made in this way, says Emilia Mehlberg from Stockholm.

Thousands of people were ejected from the site when CSN suffered an IT glitch at midnight on Saturday night.

It was the high pressure on the application for the transition study support that became too high for the website to crash.

One of those sitting on a bench in front of the computer was Emilia Mehlberg, 43, from Stockholm. But despite several attempts, her application never went through.

– I think this is preposterous. How does it think when it puts the application on a Friday night? It is completely hysterical and strange that the application is made in this way, she says.

Want to change career path

Emilia Mehlberg has for several years worked as a project and production manager in the marketing industry. But now she is ready to turn the page.

With transition study support as a crutch, she wants to study economics at a university of applied sciences.

– It’s not terribly easy to start over professionally when you have children and loans and all that. Therefore, the support is perfect for those of us who cannot chew noodles in a student corridor, she says.

“A hysterical way”

Just over two hours after the service opened at midnight, CSN had to pause the application for the popular support.

Of the roughly 30,000 people who were on the website, only 1,110 of them got their application through.

– I sat up until 2 am. This is really a hysterical way to decide who should get the support. I am really wondering why my application was not submitted while someone else’s was.

She continues:

– CSN cannot claim that it is first-come, first-served if it is not first-come, first-served. It is very unfair that everyone does not have the same conditions to apply for the support, says Emilia Mehlberg.

CSN in crisis meeting

On Saturday, CSN announced that the authority had called a crisis meeting to determine whether the website was strong enough to reopen the application.

And then, according to a preliminary forecast, only at 14:00.

Considering that first come, first served applies – do you agree with Emilia Mehlberg that it can be perceived as unfair that the applications that could go through yesterday are now put first in the queue?

– No. You can safely believe that these 1,110 people who were the first were reasonably successful because they were the first, says Stefan Tärnhuvud who is press secretary at CSN.

Facts

This is transition study support

The support is study support for adults in the middle of working life. With the adjustment study support, you can study and broaden your skills so that you become more attractive on the labor market, either by further developing yourself in your field or by changing tracks.

The transition study support consists partly of a contribution of 80 percent of your salary (up to a maximum amount), partly of a loan that you can top up with if you want. You can receive the support for 44 weeks; longer if you study part-time.
