PNRR, Enel wins funds for almost 4 billion

Enel Lanzetta Lets think of the second solar panel factory

(Finance) – Playing in advance, Enel won tenders for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan for almost 4 billion euros by presenting various projects, mainly in the mission relating to the “Green Revolution and ecological transition” (M2). The largest slice of the pie, almost 3.5 billion, went to distribution networks from a smart grid perspective. That’s what he explained Italy director of Enel, Nicola Lanzetta in an interview with Ansa, assuring that “the deadlines will be respected”.

Among the projects these include, in particular, investments in distribution networks with a view to smart grids, the expansion of the 3Sun photovoltaic panel factory in Catania, the development of plants for the production of green hydrogen and the improvement of the water infrastructure of the Pozzillo dam (Enna ) which has a contribution of approximately 33 million euros.

The last ones won in the last 48 hours three tenders, for a total of 38 million euros– he announced Lanzetta – concern “the production of green hydrogen from renewable energy in abandoned industrial areas in Puglia, Calabria and Liguria”. According to what was made public by the three regions between 30 and 31 March, these projects are aimed at the creation of electricity generation plants from renewable sources in place of the old fossil power plants.

“The Pnrr convinces us, it’s going more than well. We had prepared ourselves in advance, studying the technical aspects, training the staff and also being able to proceed quickly with the supplies – he said Lanzetta –. This mechanism – he continued – “convinces us beyond a possible review. On the Repower Eu plan we have already presented a series of proposals even if it is not yet active. And if there were additional or unused funds from the Pnrr we would like to play it” .

Strengthen the energy generation networks that arrive directly at homes and their resilience to extreme climatic events – he underlines Italy director of Enel – “it is needed more and more given the 20% increase year on year” of severe weather phenomena in Italy. “The network must always be ready” to face unexpected pressures. “On this network – he says Lanzetta – small and medium-sized photovoltaic systems are being connected for the self-production of energy. Between January and February 2022 there were around 20 thousand and in the same period of 2023 they tripled to 60 thousand. We need the network, which is holding up very well, to be better and better.”

On the front of development of photovoltaic technology, Enel’s Italy director recalls the expansion of the photovoltaic panel factory in Catania, which will produce up to 3 Gw per year by 2024, with the use of an innovative technology, which can count between Pnrr and Innovation Fund funds on about 190 million euros. Then there is an innovative pilot project which involves the production of plastic panels with a contribution of around 20 million euros.
