Lambton OPP have laid criminal charges against a Sarnia police officer, officials with Sarnia’s service say.
Sarnia’s police were notified by Lambton OPP March 31 of charges against Const. Sean Van Vlymen, Sarnia police said in a news release.
The charges stem from “an off-duty incident involving a Sarnia Police officer operating a personal motor vehicle,” police said.
Van Vlymen is assigned to non-operational duties and Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis directed an internal investigation, pursuant to the Police Services Act, the release says.
“The Sarnia Police Service is committed to swiftly addressing any complaints and concerns within our lawfully available legal frameworks,” Davis said in the release.
“It is deeply concerning when any police officers are involved in incidents that can negatively impact the public trust. This concern is shared by many members of the Sarnia Police, who continue to professionally serve the public every hour of every day, often in difficult and challenging circumstances.”
