Many were trampled to death in Pakistan
At least eleven people were trampled to death in Karachi in southern Pakistan on Friday. Several of the dead are said to be children.
The accident occurred when hundreds of women and children were trying to access packages of food that a company distributed to the poor. A large number of people fell into a ditch, whereupon panic broke out. In addition, a brick wall collapsed under the pressure of people, injuring several people.
Handouts of food and money to the poor are common in Pakistan during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began last week.
