20-year-old Julia Nilsson lives with an ileostomy. She has received millions of views on Tiktok where she shows off her ostomy bag. – It is mostly older people who are open about this. I felt quite alone as a young person with a stoma, she says. Julia has had problems with her intestines since she was a child. Five years ago, she was told that the activity in the colon was too low, and in 2021 she had ostomy surgery. This means that she has a stoma bag on her stomach where urine and faeces come out. 15 million views She has chosen to be completely open about this. On her Tiktok, she shares videos of her changing the bag and answering curious questions. One of these videos has received 15 million views. – I felt that something was missing. I felt quite alone as a young person with a stoma. You have seen Facebook groups, but it is mostly older people who are open about this. What kind of response have you received? – I have received a great response. Many have said that I have inspired them and that I have made them dare to show their stomas and dare to talk about their stomach and intestinal problems. Julia Nilsson tells us that the most common misconception is that it smells. – It’s a small poo bag that you wear on your stomach, but it’s nothing that smells to the public.
